Have you ever wondered what libraries look like in other parts of the world? Well, we love libraries and are always enticed by the boundless stories and possibilities they hold, so we couldn’t resist from asking ourselves that same question. Just what does a library look like in another part of the globe? We did some digging and found 5 awesome kids libraries worldwide.
The Osu Children’s Library Fund Library, based in the capital city of Accra in Ghana was once a shipping container. It has now been transformed into a welcoming place for children to enjoy their favorite books!

This library in Bangkok, Thailand is managed by the Sikkha Asia Foundation. On top of providing a book corner for kids, the library also hosts music, arts, and Thai traditional activities to help younger generations inherit Thai culture and customs.

This library, funded by Child Aid boasts a hefty collection of books. Child Aid works in communities surrounding the Lake Atitlan region of central Guatemala and in 2014 reached over 13,000 students! Here, a child named Ernesto shows off all of the books he has read from his local library so far.

The Library of Muyinga is located in the central African country of Burundi and is designed to serve deaf children in the area. Built from locally-sourced materials, the beautiful light filled building is made out of compressed earth and provides a nice cozy hammock sitting area where kids can read their favorite books.
The Picture Book Museum in Iwaki City Japan is a sprawling privately owned library that serves three local preschools in the area. There are 10,000 children’s picture books in the collection and up to 1,500 can be on display at any given time. The library has open-access days where tourists are allowed, but otherwise the lucky children of Iwaki get to enjoy all it has to offer!
