Recently my husband and I traveled to Thailand where we ate our way through delicious Thai food from Bangkok and Chiang Mai to Khao Lak and Kuraburi. One of the highlights of our trip was staying with a local family on the island of Koh Phratong in the Andaman Sea. Our host family was so generous with their cooking that it’s no surprise we absolutely fell in love with the food.
While we’ve attempted a few Thai recipes since we’ve returned home, we are still hoping to recreate the fun and simple Thai dessert of fried bananas and sweet potatoes that our host family taught us how to cook.
Check out our Thai cooking adventure below and then give it a try yourself! This Fried Bananas “Kluay Tod” recipe from ImportFood.comis the closest I’ve found to capturing the cooking process we learned.
The whole team at work peeling and cutting bananas and sweet potatoes.
Me learning how to grate a fresh coconut…it will be tough to replicate fresh coconut back home in Michigan where I live, but well worth it!
The bananas and sweet potatoes are ready to be battered!
Next up, the bananas and sweet potatoes fry in hot oil in a wok.
Ready to eat! We drained the oil and then dug into our sweet treats.
