On most days, books take over our house. My two-year old daughter has more books than I can count and we love reading together. Here’s what’s on our current reading radar. What are you reading?
This Little Trailblazer by Joan Holub and Daniel Roode
We LOVE this book. It is seriously one of our go-to favorites. My daughter is drawn to the illustrations and I am drawn to the lyrical verses of strong female role models who have made a big impact in our world. Any chance I get to teach her how much she matters and that she too can make a huge imprint in this world, I readily take. This book gives us the chance to have some pretty big discussions at only two years of age.
Everywhere Babies by Susan Meyers and Marla Frazee
This book authentically captures the everyday life of babies. What we love about it is the subtle representation of every family type and lifestyle. From young to old and breastfeeding to bottle, each illustration showcases highly diverse family dynamics that are paired with rhythmic language.
Hello World illustrated by Nancy Kubo
Brought to us by Disney Press, this fun and delightfully illustrated book introduces 14 languages as readers learn to say Hello. Though there are certainly some clichés captured in the illustrations, my daughter is drawn to the colorful art and animated faces. This book gives us the chance to try out different languages, to experience a simple word from each, and to use that as a starting point to look at each country on a map. Some great discussions have come out of reading this book.
We are always on the hunt for new books that represent everybody and books that teach young people about the world. What are you reading? Please share!
